POLISH CHAMPIONS INVITE YOU TO LUBLIN FOR THE EUROLIGE

The Polish champions from Lublin are anticipating their second match with Familia Basket Schio and invite fans from Italy to their city. This is the debut season for Polski Cukier AZS UMCS Lublin in the Euroleague. The club from Lublin has one of the youngest teams in European competitions.

Last season, Polish Cukier AZS UMCS Lublin won the first Polish championship in its history. After two years of experience in the Eurocup, the club decided to take up the challenge of competing in the Euroleague.

„Competing against the best European teams is the next step in our development. We’ve had a positive experience in the Eurocup, now it’s time for something more. On the one hand, the Euroleague is a sporting development, but on the other hand, it is an organizational development,  and for our city of Lublin and the Lublin region, it is also a promotional aspect,” says Rafał Walczyk, the club’s president.

DIFFICULT BEGINNINGS

The beginning of the competition is challenging for the Lublin team, because they had to immediately face very strong opponents. Defeats against Famila Basket Schio, Valencia Basket or DVTK and Fenerbahce have shown that this will be a demanding season. However, the victory against the Romanian ACS Sepsi-SIC or the last match against LDLC ASVEL Feminin, which was decided literally in the last seconds, showed that AZS UMCS is gaining valuable experience, drawing conclusions and gradually finding their footing in the Euroleague from match to match.

„I told the girls in the locker room that if we play like that, we will be dangerous, and dangerous to the best. This is the only way we can play to be a good team – said coach Krzysztof Szewczyk after the match in Lyon.
